AI-focused Data Center to be Built by Avant Technologies in Milwaukee

The first Avant-branded micro data center is set to be built by Avant Technologies, an artificial intelligence (AI) company that specializes in designing and developing cutting-edge AI infrastructure solutions. The micro data center is intended for private cloud companies operating in the rapidly expanding AI and big data industries.

Milwaukee, Wisconsin is where Avant plans to construct its first data center. Avant anticipates that in the first half of 2025, its cutting-edge data center will be operational.

“We are encouraged that the growing early demand for our high-density compute infrastructure is coming from both the on-premises and colocation segments of the private cloud sector,” said Avant Technologies CEO at Timothy Lantz. “It has always been part of our strategy to leverage the power of our technology to eventually operate our own data centers. We believe that rapidly growing demand for new data center capacity, combined with the progress of our solution development over the past 6 months, supports our decision to move up the planned start date for this phase of Avant’s growth strategy.”

After giving serious thought to a number of critical elements required for rapid expansion and success, such as a wealth of top tech talent, a thriving innovation scene with rising investment, and unequaled affordability, Avant thoughtfully chose Milwaukee.

According to Avant Technologies, they have chosen Milwaukee for their micro data center with the following reasoning in mind:

  • Thriving Tech Hub - Milwaukee is placed fifth among the ‘Up and Coming Tech Cities in the U.S.’ according to Forbes.
  • Investment Magnet - Milwaukee is regarded as a national leader in the growth of early-stage investments and as one of the top 10 US cities for venture capital fund investments, according to Dealroom.co. Milwaukee's impressive 34% rise in growth from 2021 to 2022 would place it eighth nationally for year-over-year growth.
  • Tech Giants’ Support - Wisconsin's promise is being acknowledged by big names like Google, Microsoft, and Amazon. While Google opened a data center optimization-focused office in Madison, Microsoft is expanding its recent billion-dollar investment with a new data center south of Milwaukee.
  • Top-Tier Talent Pipeline - Renowned universities including the University of Wisconsin–Madison, MSOE, and Marquette University contribute to Milwaukee's substantial tech talent pool. These universities are collaborating with top companies in the field, such as GE Healthcare, Intel, and NVIDIA, to develop a skilled workforce with an emphasis on AI.
  • Cost-Effective Advantage - Milwaukee ranks as the fourth most reasonably priced major U.S. city (population over 500,000) to conduct business in, according to Business Facilities Magazine.

In short, Milwaukee would be the ideal starting site for Avant’s future growth because of its robust digital industry, strong investment base, existing tech giants, expanding talent pool, and affordability.
