Alibaba Terminates Cloud Services Operations in Taiwan

As of June 30, 2022, Alibaba has terminated its cloud services operations in Taiwan, also referred to as the Republic of China (ROC). Alibaba has not given a reason why these services were terminated and whether tensions between mainland China and Taiwan might have something to do with it.

Customers in Taiwan will no longer be able to establish network communication from Taiwan to other areas using Alibaba Cloud Cloud Enterprise Network (CEN) after CEN has been discontinued in Taiwan. Taiwan’s network was cut off from all other networks, also those operating outside of Taiwan.

In their official statement, Alibaba consequently refers to Taiwan as ‘China (Taiwan)’ mentioning the cloud region for which the services have just been terminated.

Alibaba Cloud advised its clients to move their cloud resources out of Taiwan and into a nearby region before June 30, 2022, in order to avoid service interruptions brought on by the discontinuity of CEN in Taiwan.
