Gompute, a supplier of data center and high-performance computing (HPC) services, has been acquired by Nordic colocation, HPC, and AI service provider, atNorth. This announcement marks atNort’s ongoing growth in the Nordic region. Financial terms of the data center acquisition were not disclosed.
As per the deal, atNorth will bolster its position in the rapidly expanding HPC industry by including Gompute's data center in Gothenburg, Sweden, in its portfolio. This colocation data center has a capacity potential of 10MW.
With atNorth's HPC-as-a-service solution and colocation platform, together with Gompute's “cutting-edge HPC technology, knowledgeable engineers, and loyal customer base,” clients would have access to a “compelling” pan-nordic complete stack offering specifically designed for HPC and AI workloads.
HPC Workloads and Applications
According to Eyjolfur Magnús Kristinsson, CEO of atNorth, "Gompute has been at the forefront of running hugely sophisticatedhigh-performance applications for high-profile organizations with some of the most highly skilled engineers in the industry for over 20 years. We are excited to welcome them to the atNorth family, and this acquisition forms a significant part of our growth strategy as the leading provider of data center and HPC infrastructure in the Nordics."
When Gompute was established in 2002, its primary objective was to handle the growing complexity of HPC workloads and applications while maintaining a high standard of performance, throughput, usability, and support services. According to atNorth, Gompute's exceptional customer service and strong sense of entrepreneurship perfectly complement atNorth's corporate culture and goals.
“Since our first conversations, we have discovered that atNorth is a good cultural match with a like-minded attitude," said Gompute's co-founder and CEO, Daniel Persson. "With its strong Nordic presence and global reach, we firmly believe that the company has the management, corporate backing, and global presence to build on our HPC offering. We are thrilled to join North and are certain that they are in the greatest position to help our clients, provide career possibilities for our staff, and foster the vital innovation required in the HPC market because of our shared values, culture, and dedication to the sector.”
Sustainable IT Operations
"We want to be driving innovation and technology so that we can continue to provide our customers with the best, future-proofed solutions for their needs both now and going forward," Kristinsson added, referring to the significant increase in demand for HPC and AI workloads. “Through this acquisition, we will be able to power next-generation sustainable IT operations from the Nordic area and continue to satisfy demand quickly enough to suit the demands of the global market.”
As a Pan-Nordic provider of data center services, with its headquarters located in Reykjavik, Iceland, atNorth provides high-performance computing colocation solutions across Finland, Sweden, and Iceland. The business runs six data centers in key Nordic cities, and in Q3 2024, a sixth facility is scheduled to open in Helsinki, Finland. atNorth's data centers are powered by renewable energy sources and adhere to the circular economy principles, with sustainability as a fundamental value.
