BMC, a global provider of automation, operations, and service management solutions, has acquired Model9 Software, a mainframe cloud data management software provider. The transaction is expected to close in the first half of 2023, subject to standard closing conditions, and the financial details of the deal have not been disclosed.
By acquiring Model9, BMC expands its AMI offering. It would now provide BMC’s clients with an easier and quicker path to the cloud for data management, data protection, and data analytics. Model9 enables businesses to modernize their mainframe assets for faster innovation, constant data availability, and cyber threat defense.
One of the key advantages of the acquisition would be that customers can effortlessly manage and run auxiliary storage, eliminating the need for pricey secondary storage hardware and related software licenses while offloading data to cloud-object storage. This relialble cloud storage and data management aid would help alleviate the difficulties connected with keeping and managing massive amounts of mainframe data.
Cloud Data Management for Mainframe
BMC customers will now be able to store and exchange mainframe data throughout the hybrid IT landscape, including public and private clouds. They can “reliably, efficiently and securely” transfer mainframe data to the cloud and manage secondary storage consistently to support new use cases, enhanced business agility, and ongoing cost reduction.John McKenny, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Intelligent Z Optimization and Transformation at BMC, stated, “Together BMC and Model9 empower innovation by reinventing mainframe data management. With mainframe cloud data management, enterprises gain all the advantages of on-premises mainframe computing for large-scale, mission-critical applications, in addition to the flexibility, scalability, and cost benefits of the cloud. Together, we will broaden the benefits of the cloud to our mainframe customers, accelerating their transition to autonomous digital enterprises.”
According to Gil Peleg, Founder and CEO of Model9, “We see the success our customers have as they modernize their mainframe by connecting it to the cloud. Customers will be able to update more rapidly and safely while fully utilizing their investment in currently trusted infrastructure by combining Model9’s Cloud Data Management for Mainframe solutions with the BMC AMI product portfolio.”
By funding innovation through acquisitions, BMC has made six acquisitions in the past three years. The acquisition of Model9 would demonstrate BMC’s continued commitment to providing innovative solutions for its customers.
