The distributed object storage called Cloudflare R2 Storage, which does away with egress fees, is now globally available. For developers, Cloudflare R2 Storage would provide a better method to store and access anything they require.
Cloudflare R2 offers flexibility with no exit costs for storing and delivering web assets, logs, or huge media files. Both an S3-compatible API and a strong interface with Cloudflare Workers, Cloudflare’s highly scalable serverless computing technology, are provided to developers by R2, enabling a simple transfer. Instead of stressing about expensive storage or vendor lock-in, Cloudflare stated that developers can concentrate on inventing and creating the websites and applications they require.

According to Cloudflare, developers need a location to store massive volumes of unstructured data, images, videos, and graphics that is rapidly and easily accessible in order to construct websites and applications. To access their data, developers must pay a rising amount of “outrageous bandwidth fees” from many cloud providers today, which leads to unnecessary cloud storage costs, vendor lock-in, and the difficulty for developers to readily utilize the data they have saved, Cloudflare added.
With easy data migration from S3-compatible services to Cloudflare’s “highly performant,” object store - without the egress fees - Cloudflare R2 Storage would liberate developers from this vendor lock-in.
“The egress fees we were paying our existing storage provider to retrieve our own content had slowly increased to over six figures a year, and so we were looking for a way to reduce costs,” said Adam Gamble, Chief Technology Officer (CTO) at Vecteezy, a design community and resource for high quality graphics. “We were excited to participate in the beta for our R2 and Cache Reserve to see what our potential cost savings could be. With the S3-compatible API, minimal changes were needed for our internal tools to work with the data stored in R2.”

More than 11,000 developers have active accounts with R2 Storage since the service’s open beta launch eight weeks ago.
