Cologix Expands in Canada with Strategic Acquisitions and Capacity Boost

One of the top providers of hyperscale edge data centers and network-neutral connectivity in North America, Cologix, has announced the completion of significant acquisitions and new capacity. Now that it has expanded Cologix colocation data centers in Montréal and Toronto and completed the purchase of two Cyxtera facilities in Vancouver and Montréal, Cologix has 22 data centers in Canada totaling 1,057,000 square feet and 94MW of electricity.

“There are significant tailwinds for the demand for colocation and interconnection solutions across Canada due to the ongoing trends of digital migration to the cloud, 5G networks, and high-density compute needs of AI and ML,” said Sean Maskell, President and General Manager of Cologix Canada. “To provide state-of-the-art data center solutions and support the expansion of companies at the forefront of technological innovation, Cologix has carefully placed itself in these vibrant Canadian cities. As the leading supplier and strategic partner for hyperscale, cloud services, enterprise, and carrier clients, we have recently expanded and acquired other businesses. We are influencing the future of connectivity at the periphery, not merely building up our infrastructure.”

350 networks, more than 200 cloud providers, 15 public cloud onramps, three Internet Exchanges (IXs), and an extensive Canadian interconnection ecosystem are all part of Cologix. Cologix claims that 75 percent of Canada’s public cloud onramps, such as Oracle FastConnect, IBM Cloud, Microsoft Azure ExpressRoute, Amazon Web Services Direct Connect, and Google Cloud Interconnect, are now offered by Cologix.

Canadian Data Centers

Specifics of Cologix’s acquisitions and expansions of Canadian data centers include:

  • MTL10 – At its MTL10 colocation data center in Montréal, one of its biggest network-neutral data centers with over 250,000 square feet and 39MW of power, Cologix has increased capacity by 12,000 square feet and 4MW of power. With direct access to the Meet-Me-Room (MMR) at Cologix’s MTL3 facility and a variety of scalable fiber connectivity choices, MTL10 provides many interconnectivity possibilities.
  • TOR1 – Cologix, which operates one of Canada’s biggest carrier hotels and is a beacon of connectivity with a total of 27,400 square feet and 4K kW of power, is extending capacity at its facility by 2,400 square feet and 400kW of power. This facility offers several deployment choices, including cabinets, cages, private pods, conventional and virtual connections, and serves a wide range of businesses and carriers. 2024 will see the online of the increased capacity.
  • VAN5 – This recently acquired colocation facility, housed in the Harbour Centre, delivers 1.2MW of electricity and 11,000 square feet of premium real space. This data center, which is well-known for its cutting-edge architecture and strategic connection, helps Cologix gain more traction in Vancouver’s ever-evolving tech scene.
  • MTL12 – This 8,500-square-foot, 1.6MW-power colocation data center in Montréal was purchased with the intention of strategically meeting the growing needs of the city’s quickly developing technological industry.

Cologix recently declared the completion of its TOR4 colocation facility, which provides scalable, and high-performance data center services, in addition to these recent advancements. Situated on a spacious 3.4-acre property, TOR4 is a three-story building with 50,000 square feet of space. Its custom infrastructure allows it to grow and change in response to changing company needs.
