Compute Cloud@Customer: Providing OCI Compute Services Anywhere

Oracle has released Oracle Compute Cloud@Customer, a rack-scale cloud architecture that allows businesses to use compute services from Oracle Cloud architecture (OCI) from any location. Customers may design, deploy, protect, and manage workloads in deployments as small as one rack using Compute Cloud@Customer by utilizing the same software stack as OCI.

Organizations may run middleware and applications on OCI computing, storage, and networking services in their data centers with configurable virtual machine (VM) configurations thanks to Oracle computing Cloud@Customer. It can be a perfect platform for workloads that are closely connected with Oracle databases when used in conjunction with Oracle Exadata Cloud@Customer.

To provide a uniform user experience across all locations, organizations may utilize the same OCI services in their data centers and Oracle Cloud Regions, and developers and IT administrators can access the same APIs and management tools. Additionally, businesses may take advantage of OCI's consumption model to simplify operations and save expenses by deploying new cloud-native apps on a fully managed cloud platform in their data centers and consolidating legacy workloads.

"We continue to invest in our distributed cloud strategy with the launch of Compute Cloud@Customer because users want a consistent experience regardless of where services are running," said Edward Screven, Oracle's Chief Corporate Architect. “Customers may mix Oracle's Dedicated Region, Cloud@Customer, and OCI public cloud regions to build a globally dispersed cloud solution. Customers can easily accomplish their strategic cloud business goals with this option, which also allows them to meet data residency requirements, utilize high-performance connections to their current data centers, and run latency-sensitive applications.”

Compute Cloud@Customer is designed with robust performance and high availability in mind. It can be readily scaled to accommodate the requirements of both small and big companies, each with a unique distributed cloud deployment scenario. Compute Cloud@Customer may increase compute and storage independently to more than 6,000 processing cores and 3.4 PB of storage capacity, starting with 552 processor cores and 150 TB of useable storage (block, file, and/or object)

Integrated Cloud Platform

Oracle Compute Cloud@Customer is a fully integrated cloud platform that is developed, installed, owned, and maintained by Oracle, in contrast to on-premises options from other public cloud providers that are pieced together from third-party components or have substantially restricted capabilities. It would offer the same OCI cloud services at the same affordable prices and is fully interoperable with both the OCI public cloud regions and OCI dedicated region. These features allow users to create and execute cloud-native apps from any location, while also lessening the upkeep and upgrading load for users.

"The message is 'go big or go home' for organizations looking to deploy cloud services on-premises," said Ron Westfall, Research Director of The Futurum Group. "I see so many on-premises cloud services offering only a tenth of the capabilities of their public cloud counterparts, or they are just warmed-over hardware boxes wrapped with financial engineering tools."

This trend is obviously broken by Oracle's most recent computing Cloud@Customer offering, which offers the same computing, storage, networking, APIs, control plane, and an expanding range of services that are also offered in OCI. It is a full-fledged cloud experience on-premises as part of the company's strategic distributed cloud plan.

Compute Cloud@Customer data is always encrypted for enhanced security, as is the case with other OCI services. Additionally, businesses may completely manage data locality, replication, and backups through the OCI Console. This helps companies to comply with strict privacy and data residency regulations. Compute Cloud@Customer is also a resource that can be added to an OCI tenancy by enterprises who use OCI-based authorisation and authentication. This would allow them to create a single, cohesive environment that spans both on-premises and OCI Region data centers.

OCI’s Distributed Cloud Strategy

Oracle Compute Cloud@Customer is the latest addition to Oracle’s distributed cloud offerings, including Oracle Alloy, OCI public cloud regions, Oracle E.U. Sovereign Cloud, Oracle Database Service for Microsoft Azure, OCI Dedicated Region, and Oracle Exadata Cloud@Customer. The capability of all 100+ OCI services, or only a portion of them, may be deployed with customer-specified operating models, performance, security, compliance, and location. Organizations may deploy the same software anywhere it needs to operate by using the common services, administration, and user experiences offered by Oracle distributed cloud.
