Corero Network Security, a global provider of distributed denial of service (DDoS) protection solutions, has unveiled its latest innovation in cybersecurity - a DDoS cloud-backup service integrated with Akamai Prolexic’s technology. This announcement would mark a significant expansion in Corero’s portfolio by integrating their on-premises defenses with Akamai’s cloud capabilities, aiming to offer a comprehensive hybrid DDoS protection approach.
The newly launched service, named the Corero SmartWall ONE Hybrid Cloud DDoS Protection, is designed to seamlessly transition to cloud-based mitigation when a significant DDoS attack is detected. This would ensure uninterrupted service availability for businesses, making it an immediately available managed solution offered by Corero Network Security.
The partnership between Corero and Akamai, initiated last year, has been pivotal in developing this advanced cybersecurity offering. According to Ashley Stephenson, CTO of Corero Network Security, this collaboration is a strategic response to the growing demand for more sophisticated and resilient cybersecurity measures among their clientele. “Our strategic cooperation with Akamai has been instrumental in reaching this milestone. Our customers continually seek more robust protections against cyber threats, such as DDoS attacks, while also aspiring to broaden their own security services.”

“Our customers continually seek more robust protections against cyber threats, such as DDoS attacks,” said Ashley Stephenson, CTO of Corero Network Security.
With its headquarters in London and a listing on the London Stock Exchange, Corero has operations centers in Marlborough, Massachusetts, in the United States of America, and Edinburgh, in the United Kingdom.
Through the integration of Akamai’s Prolexic technology into Corero’s SmartWall ONE solutions, Corero would be able to improve DDoS protection while also providing enterprises with instant operational benefits.
With operations across the globe, Akamai Prolexic makes use of a vast network of strategically placed DDoS scrubbing centers. By identifying and diverting malicious traffic away from the client's infrastructure, these centers are specifically made to detect and mitigate DDoS attacks.
Incoming traffic to a targeted site or service is diverted to these scrubbing centers upon the detection of a possible DDoS attack. Here, malicious packets are detected and filtered out while valid traffic is still allowed to flow through thanks to sophisticated algorithms that evaluate the data. The end user would experience little difficulty with this process, guaranteeing that services continue to run smoothly.
Scalability and adaptability, which are critical considering the fluctuating nature and scope of DDoS attacks, are further features of Prolexic’s methodology. With this adaptability, Akamai’s Prolexic offering can accommodate unexpected increases in traffic without sacrificing efficiency, and offer customized security depending on the unique requirements and threat landscape of each customer. Furthermore, in order to combat novel and developing threat vectors, Akamai incorporates adaptive rate controls and anomaly detection systems that are constantly evolving.
