A new, hyperscale-ready data center complex is set to be built on 72 acres of property in Conyers, Georgia’s Rockdale County, according to DC BLOX, a supplier of linked data centers and dark fiber solutions across the Southeast region of the United States. When fully constructed, the site will have 750,000 square feet of space and 216 megawatts of electricity provided by Georgia electricity.
A hyperscale customer will anchor the project’s first phase, and subsequent tenants will have access to 160,000 square feet of space when it is slated to be completed in 4Q 2025.
A dark fiber ring will be constructed by DC BLOX as part of the project's objectives to surround the Atlanta metropolitan region. The ring would provide a robust link to the DC BLOX dark fiber route that travels from Atlanta to its Myrtle Beach, South Carolina Cable landing station, providing tenants on campus with much more fiber capacity. This connection would enable worldwide connectivity possibilities. Because of its location in the communications hub of the Southeast and its integrated high-capacity fiber lines, the facility would have a significant potential of becoming a regional hyperscale peering point for interconnection.
About 24 miles east of Atlanta's downtown is where the new data center facility will be situated in Conyers, Georgia. Through its representative, Conyers Rockdale Economic Development Council (CREDC), the Development Authority of Rockdale County has bestowed some incentives onto the site. DC BLOX's design and construction partners, Evans General Contractors, DLB Associates, Corgan, Thomas & Hutton, and Bennett & Pless, will collaborate on the development of the facility.
"A key differentiator for our customers is DC BLOX's ability to build vertically integrated infrastructure solutions, including data centers and dark fiber networks," said Jeff Uphues, CEO of DC BLOX. “As a result of our reputation for creating state-of-the-art fiber networks, cable landing stations, and colocation data centers across the Southeast, we are in a good position to satisfy the exacting needs of hyperscalers as well as suppliers of AI/ML platforms and applications.”
‘Growth of AI/ML Applications’
"Every member of the Authority is committed to achieving deliberate and significant growth that has a positive ripple effect throughout our community and the surrounding area," said Dr. Stephen Boyle, the chairman of the Development Authority of Rockdale County. "DC BLOX definitely fulfills the requirements of the objectives we have talked about for the past eighteen months, and its existence is a step in the right direction for the vision we have in common for our community."
Data center consumption and pre-leasing activity in the Atlanta market would be surging at an unprecedented rate, primarily due to hyperscaler expansions into more consumer-friendly markets, the explosive growth of AI/ML applications, and power constraints in primary data center markets such as Northern Virginia.
Kevin Hanna, President of the Conyers Rockdale Economic Development Council, said, "The CREDC is thrilled to welcome DC BLOX to our community. DC BLOX has impressed us throughout our conversations by being open to sharing information and taking community suggestions into consideration when designing the upcoming data centers. They are, in our opinion, the cornerstone of an ecosystem that will eventually lead to fresh technological investments in the County and the City of Conyers for many years to come.”
