DH2i, SUSE Partner to Streamline Microsoft SQL Server Container Modernization

SUSE

To deliver the most straightforward path to Microsoft SQL Server container modernization, DH2i has partnered with SUSE, a worldwide provider of enterprise-grade open source solutions. Organizations may quickly move both physical and virtual SQL Server databases to availability groups in Kubernetes by integrating Rancher by SUSE with DH2i’s DxEnterprise Smart High Availability Clustering software.

This partnership would give companies the ability to update their SQL Server environment, which may speed up application deployment and optimize resource use, while lowering infrastructure and administrative costs.

The most important data assets of a business are often stored on SQL Server, making optimum availability and security top priorities for IT teams. Due to these strict constraints, it can be very difficult to modernize SQL Server, and the idea of using containers in SQL Server production systems is completely unthinkable, according to DH2i. DH2i and SUSE say they have flipped the paradigm on its head and helped ensure that users can achieve near-zero downtime and Zero Trust security for even the most mission-critical SQL Server environments in containers.

Organizations may take use of containerization’s advantages for SQL Server modernization by using DH2i’s DxEnterprise software in combination with Rancher from SUSE. The quick and effective migration of physical and virtual SQL Server databases to Kubernetes availability groups is made possible by this combination. By using these technologies, businesses may quickly and efficiently modernize their SQL Server infrastructures.

“We wanted to develop a solution stack that would revolutionize SQL Server modernization as we worked with SUSE. Rancher and DxEnterprise provide unmatched cluster flexibility and capabilities while delivering a streamlined and effective approach,” said Don Boxley, CEO and Co-Founder of c. “Our solution allows sidecar container deployment for clusterware and application separation and enables clustering for native instances and containers inside the same Availability Group. It also supports mixed Windows and Linux clusters and AGs. Together, DH2i and SUSE "bring to the table a particularly potent SQL Server modernization solution.”

Database Mirroring

Rancher by SUSE provides a simplified online interface to install highly available SQL Server AGs in Kubernetes utilizing a Helm chart, thus simplifying deployment and migration. This enables a complicated deployment to be completed with only a few clicks and one line of code. Using database mirroring, DxE can quickly and effectively ease migration by bringing instances and containers into the same cluster and Availability Group after deployment.

“Modernizing SQL Server with containers is a strategic step towards future-proofing your organization and gaining a competitive edge,” said David Landry, SUSE director of Technology Partners. “The SUSE Rancher database management system with DH2i's DxEnterprise provide the fastest SQL Server modernization procedure to date. Organizations can easily convert any SQL Server database, whether it is running on Windows or Linux, to Kubernetes in a matter of minutes by using Rancher's user-friendly interface for installing Helm charts and DxEnterprise’s flexible clustering features.”
