EdgeConneX Debuts in Malaysia with 300 MW of Data Center Capacity

With plans to construct high-power data centers that will provide almost 300 MW of capacity combined, EdgeConneX, pioneer in worldwide hyperlocal to hyperscale data center solutions, announces its entry into the Malaysian market. Situated in strategic locations across Malaysia, the newly constructed EdgeConneX data centers in Cyberjaya, Bukit Jalil, and Kuala Lumpur’s Central Business District would provide colocation clients with the flexibility to create highly customized setups.

One of the strongest economies in Asia, Malaysia is poised to grow further with large investments in information technology and infrastructure. This growth would be aided by a greater focus on digitalization and the adoption of cutting-edge technologies like artificial intelligence and cloud computing.

The country's extensive network connectivity, scalable and readily accessible electricity, several port cities, and links to 22 subsea cables that provide low-latency access to other nations worldwide would all contribute to its high-tech boom.

"The high demand for scalable, high-capacity infrastructure across the Asia Pacific region fuels EdgeConneX expansion into Malaysia," said Kelvin Fong, Managing Director of EdgeConneX for APAC. “Our presence in Malaysia will support the country's thriving IT environment, digital economy, and drive for advancement, encouraging more innovation and cooperative ventures. We anticipate building on our mutual success in the area and assisting our customers in expanding their operations into Malaysia."

Head of Research at Structure Research, Jabez Tan, stated: "The Malaysian market is appealing due to its close proximity to the Singaporean connectivity ecosystem. Additionally, businesses across Malaysia will be able to link to the rest of the APAC region from a single site thanks to access to the highly aggregated system of underwater cables. For a broad range of today's workloads, being in such close proximity prevents performance deterioration."

Information about the Data Center in Malaysia

The Central Business District (CBD) of Kuala Lumpur - Distinguished by its prime central position, the data center is set to be constructed in the heart of Kuala Lumpur, the contemporary capital of Malaysia, inside the downtown business sector. This facility, which has a 19 MW IT load capacity, will provide clients plenty of options for very proximal, low latency solutions to the capital city as well as bespoke, build-to-suit configurations.

Located in the affluent Bukit Jalil neighborhood of Kuala Lumpur, this area is home to several medical, technical, and educational establishments. This greenfield EdgeConneX data center, located in the MRANTI technology park, has a capacity of roughly 70 MWs for IT load, which is more than enough to handle large-scale and hyperscale cloud or artificial intelligence installations.

Cyberjaya - Situated close to Malaysia's government capital, Cyberjaya is home to many high-tech scientific parks and is situated in an area dedicated to knowledge-based industry research and development. Nine buildings across 30 acres will comprise the EdgeConneX data center complex, which has a capacity of over 200 MWs. This scalable capacity and power will enable the site to satisfy a wide range of future client needs.
