EdgeNext and Jet-Stream Collaborate to Offer Multi-CDN Integration

Joshua Peper, CTO at Jet-Stream “EdgeNext integration brings clear advantages to our customers, including domestic China mainland delivery support for live streams and on-demand video,” said Joshua Peper, CTO at Jet-Stream.

EdgeNext, an edge cloud service provider with a focus on APAC, China, MEA, and global cloud delivery, is teaming up with Jet-Stream, a global broadcast-grade streaming platform based in the Netherlands. Jet-Stream’s clients would benefit from EdgeNext’s extensive content delivery network (CDN) which has more than 1300 data center PoPs around the world.

Through this cooperation, joint clients are anticipated to receive high-performance solutions supported by EdgeNext and the efficient and intelligent streaming workflow of the Jet-Stream management platform. The collaboration would considerably improve Jet-Stream’s capabilities and performance throughout China and the APAC region, increasing uptime and lowering latency to provide the target audiences with a flawless and smooth streaming experience.

“Jet-Stream has been at the forefront of live streaming since the early days of the Internet,” said Joshua Johnson, the Sr. Director of Solution Architects at EdgeNext. “We’re excited to partner with the Jet-Stream team to enhance their global reach with the EdgeNext network and services while also empowering the EdgeNext ecosystem through this partnership and providing access to Jet-Stream’s enhanced streaming technologies and network to EdgeNext customers.”

“We are delighted to add EdgeNext to our portfolio of CDN services. EdgeNext integration brings clear advantages to our customers, including domestic China mainland delivery support for live streams and on-demand video,” said Joshua Peper, Chief Technology Officer (CTO) at Jet-Stream. “We focus on customers who need to go beyond the performance, features, and geographies of standard video platforms, but don’t have the focus, resources, or budget to build their own streaming stack. Integrating and managing multiple CDNs is a challenge, even for the largest broadcasters. Our service gives our customers full control over distribution, and being able to deliver deep into China is another advantage that we can bring our customers, thanks to the EdgeNext partnership.”

A Multi-CDN Approach

As Mr. Peper stated, integrating and managing multiple CDNs can be a challenging task. It requires a deep understanding of each CDN’s capabilities, pricing, and SLAs, as well as the ability to manage a complex network of systems and vendors. It can be important to have a well-planned architecture and a clear strategy for how to use each CDN effectively to minimize the issues and manage them efficiently.

Imagine you are the Head of Streaming at a major broadcaster, responsible for delivering high-quality video content to millions of viewers around the world. You’ve decided to use multiple CDNs to ensure optimal performance, cost-efficiency, and redundancy. As you begin to implement and manage these multiple CDNs, you may quickly realize that the task is more complex than you had initially anticipated. Each CDN has its own unique capabilities, pricing model, and service level agreements (SLAs) that you need to understand and manage. To make matters worse, you need to maintain separate portals, billing systems, and account management teams for each CDN.

As you’re juggling all these responsibilities, you may realize that you’re lacking a complete view of your entire delivery network. It can be difficult to gain insight into how well the CDNs are performing or to troubleshoot any issues that may arise. This lack of visibility can make it challenging to optimize performance and ensure that SLAs are being met.

Another challenge can be the increased cost. Using multiple CDNs can result in higher costs for the broadcaster. you may be paying for redundant features or services, which can add up quickly. Additionally, you may need to pay for multiple peering arrangements and interconnects, which can further add to the expense.

Routing the traffic to the appropriate CDN based on geographic location, device type, or other factors can be a complex process as well, while this process might require a significant amount of planning and management. It can be difficult to make all the systems work seamlessly together. Furthermore, security may become a concern when managing and securing multiple CDNs, which can be challenging, as it requires a comprehensive understanding of the security capabilities of each CDN and how to properly configure them.

Jet-Stream

The use of multiple content delivery networks (CDNs) to distribute content to users is quickly gaining popularity though among many businesses, according to Jet-Stream. While utilizing a single CDN might be a cost-effective option, a multi CDN approach, if executed effectively, would have several advantages that can make it a superior choice for businesses including cost savings.

According to Jet-Stream, employing multiple CDNs has numerous advantages over using just one, including better performance, enhanced resilience, and more control and flexibility. Even while developing, installing, and running a Multi CDN infrastructure may present certain difficulties, according to Jet-Stream, they can be solved with good preparation and the appropriate tools and resources.
