Fastly’s Next-Gen WAF Offering Now Comes with Edge Deployment Option

Listen to this news story

Global cloud network solutions provider Fastly has announced the availability of an edge deployment option for its Next-Gen WAF solution powered by Signal Sciences. The unified offering protects applications and APIs wherever they are implemented. It can be deployed across the widest variety of architectures - from containers to on-premises, cloud, and now edge - all from a single solution.

“Enterprises have diverse security architecture challenges - from managing and auditing technology stacks to implementing security policies and protections across disparate applications in heterogeneous environments,” said Chris Rodriguez, research director for Network Security Products and Strategies at IDC. “Fastly is executing on its strategy to provide security anywhere, making it an important choice for organizations needing a flexible WAF that protects business-critical apps and APIs in a breadth of deployment options.”

The edge deployment option for the Fastly Next-Gen WAF is now available. Clients that use the Fastly Next-Gen WAF would benefit from a high-efficacy, single-solution WAF that can be deployed at the edge and alongside a variety of additional installation choices. All of these deployments can be controlled from a single platform with a unified view of security data, giving a business insight across all of its applications and APIs.

WAF Technology at the Edge

“The extension of Signal Sciences’ powerful WAF technology to include Fastly’s high-performance edge network is an incredibly exciting milestone for us,” said Joshua Bixby, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) at Fastly. “Support for variability in deployment options is important to our customers, and we’ve now launched it in a way that supports massive scale at the edge. New apps, APIs, and architectures are being built with immense velocity to meet the expectations of a modern digital experience. To meet these demands, enterprises need a unified WAF solution that protects not just the apps they have today - on-premises and in the cloud - but also the ones built at the edge in the future. With Compute@Edge powering Fastly’s Next-Gen WAF extension to the edge, customers get security everywhere that stops unwanted activity from impacting their services and the speed, scale, and stability of our edge network.”

Aside from high-impact integration with security and DevOps technologies, the Fastly Next-Gen WAF would provide clients with flexibility and value, including:

  • Trusted technology teams actually use - The Next-Gen WAF would be so reliable that over 90% of Fastly clients use it in full blocking mode
  • Rapid deployment in hours, not weeks or months - Clients can get up and running quickly thanks to Fastly's cloud-based design and near-zero tweaking
  • Increased visibility for faster remediation – Fastly’s Next-Gen WAF delivers production insight into how attackers strive to exploit or misuse clients’ apps and APIs, regardless of where they are deployed
  • Next-generation technology - The Fastly Next-Gen WAF, unlike previous rules-based WAFs, would allow for more scalability, effectiveness, and reduced total cost of ownership (TCO)
