By incorporating its RM7 Series Value SAS SSDs into HPE ProLiant Gen11 servers, KIOXIA America has made a noteworthy debut into the Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) market, representing a substantial advancement for server storage technology. With improved performance and reliability over conventional SATA SSDs, this integration would open a new era in high-performance storage solutions.
As a provider of Value SAS technology since 2019, KIOXIA has continuously increased SSD performance. The third generation of KIOXIA’s Value SAS devices, the RM7 Series SSDs have a 12Gb/s SAS interface and are available in sizes ranging from 960 gigabytes to 7.68 terabytes. Interestingly, these SSDs would meet a range of corporate demands with different endurance choices, such as 1 disk write per day (DWPD) and 3 DWPD.
The RM7 Series is distinguished by its remarkable random read speed, which can attain 190,000 IOPS (4k at a 512 queue depth), and its sequential read performance, which would reach its maximum at 1,100 megabytes/second (128K). These SSDs also include a Sanitize Instant Erase (SIE) capability, which allows for the quick and secured deletion of cryptographic data.
The Use of Storage Technology in Space
The KIOXIA SSD Business Unit's Senior Director and head of go-to-market, Faraz Velani, expressed his delight in the introduction of the newest Value SAS solutions on HPE ProLiant servers. Mr. Velani emphasized that Value SAS technology was designed with the express purpose of outperforming SATA SSDs in terms of performance, providing the stability needed for enterprise-class infrastructure while using the least amount of power.
The SSDs made by KIOXIA are not only for usage on land. These SSDs have achieved the amazing accomplishment of being used in the HPE Spaceborne Computer-2 (SBC-2), a program that is now performing scientific experiments on the International Space Station (ISS). This use of KIOXIA's Value SAS technology in space, perhaps the most extreme edge environment, highlights its reliability and robustness, stated KIOXIA.
The two have been collaborating for years to include KIOXIA's “premium” storage solutions into HPE ProLiant servers, so their partnership is not a new one. Numerous solutions, from enterprise-level deployments to mobile and data center apps, are made possible by this relationship. Value SAS SSDs are a major development in KIOXIA's 'Life After SATA' campaign, which promotes the switch from outdated SATA storage to more modern storage solutions with improved performance and dependability.
For HPE's Spaceborne project, Norm Follett, Senior Director of Space Technologies & Solutions, underlined the vital requirement for reliable storage technology. He said that Value SAS technology satisfies all the criteria for their upcoming January voyage to the International Space Station. This partnership would offer a view into the future of storage technology in some of the most difficult situations known to humans, in addition to demonstrating the technical power of KIOXIA's SSDs.
