Kubecost has launched a public beta of its SaaS offering, Kubecost Cloud, a fully managed solution for monitoring, managing, and optimizing Kubernetes expenditure at scale. The cloud-native platform provides real-time cost monitoring, reporting and optimization insights. The SaaS version was created in response to customer demand for a fully managed solution that could be used in coordination with enterprise SaaS migrations and growth.

The Kubecost Cloud beta would be affordable, secure, and simple to use, according to the company, with a 30-day free trial and a complimentary 30-day subscription. Beta users will have access to meetings and invitation-only Slack channels, as well as talks with Kubecost’s founders and developers to contribute to the company’s vision for the product and industry best practices.

Kubecost has always aimed to help teams monitor and reduce their Kubernetes spending, according to Webb Brown, co-founder and CEO of Kubecost. “By offering businesses a fully-hosted, fully-managed SaaS platform, Kubecost Cloud builds on that sector leadership. The Kubecost team takes care of all operational needs, including load balancing, replica scaling, updates, and more.”

AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud

Kubecost Cloud was first launched in restricted access late last year and has seen rapid growth as more enterprises learn how simple it can be to save wasteful Kubernetes spending, stated Kubecost. The platform is compatible with all major cloud providers and has six million downloads on AWS alone. The Kubecost cost model has been downloaded over 6 million times in the last six months after a 2022 partnership with AWS. Additionally, Google Cloud Marketplace and Microsoft Azure Marketplace offer Kubecost.

Kubecost Cloud is designed for developer usage, with engineering-focused FinOps capabilities. According to the FinOps Foundation’s 2023 State of FinOps study, allowing engineers to take action is the number one difficulty facing FinOps practitioners. Kubecost Cloud is priced per node. It would provide enterprise-level security, performance, and reliability as a SaaS solution.

Dave Smith, Director of IT Operations at Ask Media Group, said, “Kubernetes is transformative for modernizing application development - but left unchecked, Kubernetes costs will become an issue sooner rather than later. We reduced Kubernetes expenses without sacrificing the availability and dependability of applications. We’re interested to see how Kubecost Cloud can help us save money and improve our efficiency with regard to Kubernetes.”

Kubecost has also spearheaded the larger, sector-wide effort to introduce the Cloud Native Computing Foundation (CNCF) project, OpenCost, which has received contributions from Adobe, Armory, AWS, D2iQ, Google, Grafana Labs, Microsoft, Mindcurv, New Relic, and SUSE. Kubecost has just been recognized by Gartner as a Gartner Cool Vendor in Cloud-Native Computing.
