Lenovo Launches New Service to Lower Air Freight CO2 Emissions

Lenovo is now providing a unique service called Reduced Carbon Transport Service, which allows businesses to choose to reduce their carbon footprint when shipping IT equipment by air. This service is intended to assist carbon-conscious corporate clients on their sustainability journeys.

According to Lenovo, customers may achieve a minimum of 70 percent CO2 emissions reduction by purchasing Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) credits via Reduced Carbon Transport Service and attributing the ensuing emissions reduction benefit to their IT purchase.

"With innovations like Reduced Carbon Transport, we're embedding sustainability deeper into the technology value chain," said Claudia Contreras, Lenovo's Executive Director of Global Sustainability Services.Lenovo says SAF is a greener alternative to traditional jet fuel that can help lower CO2 emissions from air freight transportation and help companies meet their Scope 3 emissions requirements. Scope 3 emissions are defined under the Greenhouse Gas Protocol as those that happen outside of a company's boundaries, including emissions related to the acquisition and disposal of items. Scope 3 emissions would make up 70 percent of the average business total emissions.

While fewer than 10% of businesses would monitor their Scope 3 emissions effectively, Lenovo's Reduced Carbon Transport Service offers them a practical means of lowering their air freight emissions. Greater openness is ensured throughout the process by providing customers with a confirmation of emissions reduction that they may use for reporting against their own Scope 3 objectives.

"With innovations like Reduced Carbon Transport, we're embedding sustainability deeper into the technology value chain so that customers have a pathway to more sustainable IT decision-making," said Claudia Contreras, Lenovo's Executive Director of Global Sustainability Services. “At Lenovo, we have a deeper commitment to our mission than merely achieving Net-Zero. Attaining Net-Zero involves making a number of sustainable decisions. We are glad to assist clients in achieving success in both digital transformation and sustainability as their go-to business partner and solution supplier.”

Sustainability-Focused Services

Customers in the enterprise markets of Asia Pacific, Europe, and North America may choose to include Reduced Carbon Transport Service in their equipment orders.

Lenovo says it keeps innovating as part of its service-led transformation by offering solutions that assist clients in achieving their own sustainability objectives. Lenovo is helping clients fulfill their climate action objectives and adopt more circular and responsible IT practices through a number of sustainability-focused services, such as Lenovo CO2 Offset Service and Asset Recovery Services, in addition to its new Reduced Carbon Transport Service.

Lenovo has a network of over 20,000 technicians spread throughout 180 regions. Customers of Lenovo TruScale may implement services on a subscription basis, reducing waste by only utilizing what they really need.
