Atos, global leader in digital transformation solutions, has inked a multi-year agreement with Lumen, a major player in the global telecommunications arena, to overhaul its mainframe services. This collaboration marks a pivotal step in modernizing Lumen's core technology infrastructure, underscoring the evolving landscape of digital solutions in business.
Under this strategic partnership, Atos is set to provide Lumen with an advanced mainframe platform that will underpin its most essential applications. A noteworthy aspect of this deal is the consolidation of three data centers, currently operated by Lumen, into a singular, “state-of-the-art” hub in the United States, managed by Atos. This move is aimed at establishing a best-in-class infrastructure, setting a new benchmark in the industry.
The deal introduces a mainframe-as-a-service solution, positioning it as a game-changer for Lumen. This innovative approach mimics 'cloud-like' mainframe scalability, encompassing a wide array of services ranging from computing power to service management and fostering a culture of innovation. A key feature of this service is its consumption-based charging model, which provides Lumen with the flexibility to scale the service in alignment with its fluctuating capacity requirements. Additionally, Atos will ensure round-the-clock support, encompassing hardware, software, and technical aspects, alongside continuous monitoring and operational management.
The migration process of Lumen's mainframe workloads to Atos’ Hub is planned to be executed in meticulously phased stages, ensuring uninterrupted service levels throughout the transition. Michael Grunberg, CEO North America, Tech Foundations at Atos, emphasized the transformative impact of this project on Lumen’s operations. He highlighted the benefits such as enhanced security, agility, and innovation potential, all aligning with Lumen's broader business transformation goals. Grunberg also expressed enthusiasm about strengthening their partnership and exploring future collaborative opportunities.
Chad Naeger, Chief Information Officer (CIO) at Lumen, acknowledged the critical role of the mainframe as the backbone of their business operations. He expressed confidence in Atos’ expertise and capabilities to modernize their mainframe environment, reflecting Lumen's commitment to maintaining the highest standards of stability and security.
