With the launch of 7750 Service Routers (SR) with speeds of up to 800GE interfaces from the Netherlands to the more than 100 data centers NL-ix operates throughout the continent, Nokia has announced the further expansion of its partnership with NL-ix, the largest distributed Internet Exchange provider (IXP) in Europe.
With five nines network uptime, any port at any speed up to 800GE, and reduced energy and real estate consumption, NL-ix is now equipped to provide specialized enterprise business Internet Exchange services.
In its Amsterdam data centers, whose daily average traffic often topped 8 Tb/s in 2023, NL-ix, already one of the leading worldwide Internet exchanges, has now installed the Nokia 800GE systems. NL-ix uses a variety of IP routers from Nokia’s SR family, ranging from large-scale FP5-based multi-slot systems for core routing to smaller IP routers designed for edge and satellite-based applications, to handle network-wide traffic peaks.
Now that Nokia’s 800GE systems are being installed across Europe, NL-ix is supercharging its network and evolving from a regional Internet exchange to a European business connectivity platform that can provide carrier-grade resilience and sustain 5 9's availability of its network services.
NL-ix would now be in a unique position to draw in new clients in industries like banking, insurance, and healthcare that have historically relied on exclusive private networks to achieve these same levels of security, dependability, and deterministic service for a significant portion of their business transactions because of its breadth, resilience, speed, and sustainability.
Pan-European Internet and Cloud Exchange
“Over the next four years, in an intensive partnership with Nokia, NL-ix will be investing heavily in reinforcing its strategic position as the leading pan-European Enterprise Internet and Cloud Exchange,’ said Jan Hoogenboom, CEO at NL-ix. “As a robust foundation under it’s single-coherent and carrier grade network fabric, NL-ix will deploy Nokia’s FP5 silicon and 800 Gbit/s technology building upon Nokia’s 7750 SR, with far more speed and sustainable performance, deeply embedded in our fine-grained 100+ local data center footprint throughout Europe. This technology investment will boost our business transformation allowing us to provide European enterprises mission critical services with the insight and control of our unique Elastic Internet technology from the very capillaries of the European Internet.”
“We are delighted to work with such an innovative leader as NL-ix as they deploy Nokia’s FP5-powered IP routing technology across Europe,” said Mark Vanderhaegen, Director of Webscale Business at Nokia. “With 800GE routing, NL-ix has a platform for unrelenting Internet traffic growth and sustainable business connectivity that sets new benchmarks for reliability, performance and scale.”
