nLighten, a digital infrastructure platform owned by ISquared Capital, a prominent global infrastructure investor, has just purchased GYROCenter, a high-performance colocation data center located in Amsterdam. nLighten is making progress toward its aim of constructing and running a leading edge data center platform in Europe with the acquisition of this company. This acquisition brings the company one step closer to achieving its long-term objective.
nLighten, a firm that focuses on sustainability and operates edge data centers, is on the verge of extending its footprint in Europe. nLighten is a company that was established in 2021 by Harro Beusker and Chad McCarthy, both of whom have extensive experience in the data center sector. The aim of the company is to construct colocation data centers in close proximity to consumers, preferably within a one to two-hour drive. The implementation of their approach involves the retrofitting and construction of carbon-free, sustainable buildings, with a particular emphasis placed on environmentally conscious activities such as heat reuse.
"We continue to work full steam ahead towards building the leading edge data center platform in Europe," said Harro Beusker, co-founder and CEO of nLighten. The Gyro data center in Amsterdam offers 750 square meters of colocation space. Among others, connectivity partners onsite include Relined, Eurofiber, and Colt. Gyro’s carrier-neutral colocation data center is acquiring 100% renewable energy and is actively regulating energy usage, which is in line with nLighten’s objective to provide services in a manner that is more environmentally friendly. In terms of connectivity, security, and availability, Gyro would be situated in an ideal location. In the near future, Gyro will undergo structural modifications in line with Tier III, and the cooling system will be updated. These modifications are being made to bring Gyro up to the standards of the most recent technological state. Financial terms of the GYROCenter data center acquisition were not disclosed.
As a result of the Netherland’s reliable power supply, well-developed infrastructure, accessible location, dense connectivity, and the presence of AMS-IX as one of the world’s largest Internet hubs, the market for data centers in the Netherlands is among the biggest in Europe. Amsterdam, in particular, is a crucial site for the worldwide data center business and is considered to be one of the most important Internet hubs in Europe, while other notable locations include London, Paris, and Frankfurt.
"We continue to work full steam ahead towards building the leading edge data center platform in Europe," said Harro Beusker, co-founder and CEO of nLighten. "We are making significant progress toward our goal right now. After Germany, France and UK, we are now expanding to the Netherlands and covering another important and attractive business location."
Connectivity, Heat Re-Use, Artificial Intelligence
Another noteworthy initiative recently being carried out in Eschborn, Germany, by nLighten, is the recycling of heat from its data center here to warm local amenities, one of which being a swimming pool. Additionally, their edge data center strategy, which integrates colocation data centers into the areas in which they are located, would make this technique easier to implement.
In addition, nLighten underlines the importance of data centers adjusting to the forthcoming energy shift and participating in the development of sustainable solutions. The fact that their facilities are meant to be smaller and scattered makes them more environmentally friendly and makes it simpler to incorporate them into the energy infrastructures of the surrounding areas.
The objective of nLighten places a significant emphasis on connectivity. In addition to providing low-latency connectivity, they want to create a rich, carrier-neutral connectivity environment. This would be illustrated by the fact that they have acquired ten carrier data center locations from EXA Infrastructure and Euclyde Data Centers, which allowed them to expand their footprint and connectivity across Europe.
There is a key role that artificial intelligence (AI) technology plays in the operations of nLighten. This technology would optimize energy efficiency and distribution schemes without compromising the essential functions of the colocation data centers. The organization also places an emphasis on the recruitment of local talent, placing a higher value on attitude and aptitude than experience - to establish a staff that is both varied and capable.
