With the opening of a new colocation data center in Winterthur, Switzerland (located in the greater Zurich area), NorthC Group – the largest data center operator from the Netherlands, is carrying on with its growth into the DACH region. After acquiring three data centers from Netrics in April 2022, NorthC now has a total of four data centers in Switzerland.
This raises the total number of NorthC data centers in Switzerland to four. After the firm kicked off its international expansion in September 2021 with the acquisition of two data centers in Germany, this new addition would mark the next stage in NorthC Group’s development plan for the Benelux and DACH areas. The company began its expansion into foreign markets with the purchase of data centers in Germany.
Kyndryl Switzerland GmbH, which is a subsidiary of Kyndryl Group, one of the major IT infrastructure services providers in the world, has signed a Managed Service Agreement for colocation services in the Winterthur data center. As a result of this, Kyndryl Switzerland GmbH has become NorthC’s anchor client in the Winterthur data center. In addition to this, NorthC will make the data center facilities located in Winterthur accessible to other organizations located in the surrounding area.
Growth Market in the DACH Region
“With this new location, we continue to expand our activities in the DACH region,” said Alexandra Schless, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the NorthC Group. “This will be the 17th data center that NorthC has, and it will be placed in an area that is considered to be a significant growing market. We see an ongoing need for digital transformation in private companies as well as public organizations, which is driving demand for the services offered by data centers. We want to develop an ecosystem of regional IT partners in the Zurich area, similar to what we have done in our other data centers in the Netherlands, Germany, and Switzerland. This will allow us to provide assistance to local companies as they undergo digital transformation. Naturally, we will also transfer our core NorthC values to this data center, such as our emphasis on preserving the environment and maintaining close, personal relationships with our clients.”
Because of the large number of vital telecommunications providers that are located inside the facility, the Winterthur data center would serve as an essential nexus for the region’s data communications. The data center has an IT capacity of 1.8 MW at the moment, and there is potential for additional development in order to meet future demand levels.
“Switzerland is an important growth market in the DACH region for NorthC, and we are excited to expand our operations with a fourth data center,” said Frank Zachmann, Managing Director of the DACH region for NorthC Group. “This will make it possible for us to provide services of a regional data center to companies located in and around Zurich, which is the economic core of Switzerland. With Kyndryl Switzerland GmbH as our first client at the data center in Winterthur, we are excited about the prospect of rapidly expanding our customer base there.”
This data center will be operated by NorthC, and it will be connected to the three other NorthC data centers in Switzerland, which are situated in the cities of Munchenstein (in the region of Basel) and Biel (in the region of Bern).
