Novva Data Centers Invests $500M in 28MW Facility in San Francisco

Provider of purpose-built data center colocation facilities, Novva Data Centers, has acquired a 7.5-acre site in South San Francisco that consists of multiple buildings. With a capital expenditure above $500 million, the newest data center site will provide a critical load of 28 megawatts. With new concept that is set to make the new site one of the most innovative and sustainable data centers in the United States, the first phase of 9MW is scheduled to start in the summer of 2026.

Novva’s new San Francisco colocation facility would be one of a handful of such facilities in the northern bay region. “This will be one of the greenest data centers ever created in the area,” said Novva’s CEO Wes Swenson. “It represents a very rare opportunity for clients to locate intelligent computing in one of the most important cities for software and hardware development in the world.”

The new colocation data center in San Francisco will host numerous advancements in data center design, including the following:

  • Novva’s exclusive electrical delivery technology, which has no centralized infrastructure and is built for the highest levels of distributed redundancy, concurrent maintenance, and resilience, is used to supply a 28 MW N+1 critical compute load
  • The ground-breaking water-free air-cooling system from Novva
  • HVO, or hydro-treated vegetable oil (biodiesel), will be used to power all generators
  • Sodium Ion UPS batteries free of rare earth elements and thermal runaway risk
  • The air supply for the chilled water loop is made of recyclable polypropylene
  • A loop for direct-to-chip cooling

Sustainable Colocation Data Centers

The new data center building will occupy 182,000 square feet over two stories, in addition to a modern office and operations support center spanning 56,000 square feet.

It is become harder and harder to maintain data centers in critical mass locations with proper topology, density, and power provisioning, stated Novva. Their San Francisco data center, which Novva announced as its fifth colocation facility in less than three years, would enhance the business’s expanding presence in the Western United States. Novva has data center campuses in Las Vegas, Colorado Springs, Colorado Springs, West Jordan, Utah, and Reno, Nevada.

To provide comprehensive, client-focused solutions, Novva’s sustainable data center solutions are combined with a wide range of high capacity, scalable data center amenities. Innovative features like cutting-edge water-free cooling systems, sustainable energy utilization, and drone and robot dog site monitoring would set Novva’s data center campuses apart.
