NTT Expands into Paris, Bolsters European Data Center Presence

Global provider of IT infrastructure and services, NTT, has announced intentions to expand its Global Data Centers division in Europe by entering the Paris market. As a crucial first step in its larger European expansion plan, the company has committed to building its first data center complex in the area. By making this step, NTT will be positioned in the top data center markets on the continent with other major competitors.

The new data center complex will be located in the villages of Le Coudray-Montceaux and Corbeil-Essonnes, 50 kilometers south of Paris, and span 14.4 hectares, or around 35.5 acres. This site has secured electricity available for instant deployment and is conveniently near to important digital infrastructure. An astounding 84 MW of vital IT load will be supported by the new campus, split among three “cutting-edge” data centers.

Excited with the Paris acquisition, Doug Adams, CEO and President of NTT worldwide Data Centers & Submarine Cable, emphasized its importance in NTT's worldwide portfolio and European growth plans. The strategic significance of Paris was underlined by Florian Winkler, CEO EMEA and Global COO of NTT Global Data Centers, who also pointed out that Paris completes NTT's position in the FLAP (Frankfurt, London, Amsterdam, Paris) Tier 1 markets in Europe. To demonstrate a commitment to sustainable and integrated growth in the area, Mr. Winkler emphasized the collaborative approach to development, which involves relationships with local towns, partners, and the government.

‘Growing Need for Data Center Capacity’

The project started when Logistics Capital Partners (LCP) purchased a former brownfield site in 2019. Subsequently, there was a great deal of preparation involved, such as demolition, decontamination, and obtaining the required licenses and electrical connections for the operation of the data center. LCP will keep up its vital role in assisting with the planning and effective completion of the new campus.

This move into Paris is a response to the growing need for data and computing capacity throughout the world, which is being fueled by the use of generative AI and other cutting-edge technologies. In response to this demand, NTT has been expanding globally, with recent expansions in Virginia, USA, and Noida and Chennai, India. It is a component of the company’s massive plan to spend over $10 billion in expanding its data centers between the fiscal years 2023 and 2027. Furthermore, this growth is consistent with NTT's environmental objectives, which include operating at net-zero emissions and procuring 100% renewable energy by 2030.

NTT's foray into the Paris market would demonstrate not just its aim to expanding its worldwide data center footprint but also its environmental stewardship and community cooperation efforts. NTT's strategic investments in vital infrastructure, like this one, are expected to enhance the resilience and capacity of global data networks.
