Oracle to Open New Cloud Region in Nairobi to Boost Africa’s Digital Economy

Oracle intends to establish a public cloud region in Nairobi, Kenya, to accommodate the increasing demand for Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) services across Africa and as a component of its worldwide cloud architecture. Oracle claims to already have a robust business in Kenya and that the country’s economic objectives will be further supported by the public cloud region that will soon be established in Nairobi.

A delegation from Oracle, headed by Scott Twaddle, Senior Vice President in charge of OCI Product and Industries at Oracle, met with Eliud Owalo, cabinet secretary of Kenya's Ministry of Information, Communications, and the Digital Economy, and H.E. William Ruto, president of Kenya. Oracle pledged to support Kenya in achieving its transformational goals and economic goals by utilizing the newest cloud technologies. Oracle plans to capitalize on Kenya's digital infrastructure, which has extensive undersea and countrywide connections, as well as its renewable energy sources.

Oracle's commitment to Africa is shown by the proposed public cloud region in Nairobi, which intends to support the digital transformation of Kenyan government agencies, public institutions, businesses, startups, academic institutions, and investors around the continent. Oracle currently has its Oracle Cloud Johannesburg Region in South Africa, while it plans to keep growing OCI's presence across the continent.

AI and Cloud Application Deployments in Kenya

Oracle is able to provide its whole range of over 100 hyperscale cloud services due to OCI's unique cloud architecture. This may be used by the Kenyan government and the private industry to make doing business in Kenya easier.

President William Ruto remarked, “We are delighted to see Oracle planning such an important investment in Kenya. I am thrilled to see big tech companies like Oracle investing in Kenya and bringing cutting edge technologies like artificial intelligence and cloud applications that will help Kenyans, especially in terms of job creation.”

Eliud Owalo, cabinet secretary of Kenya's Ministry of Information, Communications, and the Digital Economy, stated that Oracle's plan to establish a public cloud region in Nairobi will play a significant role in the country's Bottom up Economic Transformation Agenda initiative, which is centered on digital transformation, private sector development, agricultural transformation, housing development, and healthcare modernization.

According to Scott Twaddle, Senior Vice President, Product and Industries, Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, “We are delighted to extend our commitment to helping Kenya accelerate the digital transformation of its government and private sector. Governments and businesses worldwide use OCI as a scalable and secure platform to promote innovation and change for mission-critical workloads. We already have a successful company in Kenya, and the public cloud area that will soon be developed in Nairobi will be a big step toward achieving the nation's economic objectives.”
