OVHcloud in Exclusive Talks to Acquire Edge Computing Specialist, gridscale

Global cloud hosting provider OVHcloud is now engaged in exclusive talks for the entire acquisition of gridscale, a provider of flexible multi-cloud and edge computing solutions based in Germany that specializes in hyperconverged infrastructure. This strategic purchase represents another key milestone for OVHcloud since it enables the group to accelerate its global deployment and to reach the very fast-growing market of edge computing.

gridscale would provide a cutting-edge assortment of multi-tenant Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) and Platform as a Service (PaaS) products and services. The firm has a particularly strong presence in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and the Netherlands.

gridscale is able to rapidly deploy a public cloud environment on a limited infrastructure, which would provide it with a significant competitive advantage. This advantage, combined with the breadth of solutions portfolio offered by OVHcloud, would enable the group to grow in the public cloud market in a more agile and flexible manner while maintaining a better control of investments.

Addressing the Edge Computing Market

The acquisition of gridscale would respond to three key challenges for OVHcloud including:

  • The implementation of an ambitious growth strategy in the edge computing market: this model of infrastructure close to users is particularly suitable to use cases requiring low latency, as well as those needing to comply with regulatory requirements in sectors such as healthcare, financial services, and government. In addition, this model of infrastructure close to users is particularly suitable to use cases requiring low latency, as well as those needing to comply with regulatory requirements.
  • The growth of on-premises cloud services, which will be accomplished by installing OVHcloud products on the infrastructures of clients. Customers that wish to maintain control of their infrastructure will be able to benefit from cloud-native functions, as well as from the breadth of OVHcloud's range of 80 IaaS and PaaS solutions, even for the most demanding use cases in terms of data residency or local data processing.
  • The quickening of the Group's worldwide deployment while continuing to keep a tight rein on its investment trajectory. As a result, OVHcloud intends to launch a large number of brand-new Public Cloud regions by the year 2026. These regions will be located in colocation data centers and will be launched with minimum financial inputs. OVHcloud's first focus will be on expanding its presence in key locations throughout the world. In addition, the multi-AZ (Availability Zones) concept is able to be easily adopted in some locations with a little amount of capital expenditure.

Joining the OVHcloud Workforce

The management team, founders of gridscale, and all of its workers will soon be joining the OVHcloud workforce. The combination of expertise and products will make it possible to rapidly provide clients an edge computing capacity that is completely integrated into OVHcloud solutions. This new service will be consumable owing to the APIs that are already in place, and it will ensure that consumers have a consistent experience while using it.

It is anticipated that the transaction will be finalized at the beginning of the fiscal year 2024; however, the fiscal year 2023 will not be affected in any way.

"The solutions that the gridscale teams have created are impressive, and we will be delighted to include them into OVHcloud,” said Michel Paulin is the CEO of OVHcloud. “Our approaches and our body of knowledge are very compatible with one another and quite complimentary. The integration of our various technologies will make it possible for us to expedite the deployment of Edge Computing solutions as well as the extension of our global footprint while simultaneously optimizing our capital allocation.”

"Joining OVHcloud presents gridscale with a number of exciting opportunities,” said Henrik Hasenkamp, founder, and CEO of gridscale. “Their expertise and worldwide presence will make it possible for us to implement and enhance our solutions at scale, swiftly, and in line with the core beliefs that we both hold in common. Along with the rest of the team, we are looking forward to the opportunity to collaborate with the OVHcloud teams, and the fact that our goals will be more easily attainable as a result of our shared trajectory.”
