Penta Infra Acquires KPN Data Center, Expands Dutch Market Footprint

KPN’s data center in Haarlem, the Netherlands, has been acquired by Penta Infra, a portfolio business of Photon Capital. Penta Infra is a rapidly expanding European supplier of sustainable, and highly networked edge and core data centers. The 6,224 square meter data center was previously owned by KPN for their hosting and data center services and is currently in limited use.

Penta Infra currently operates 11 data centers in Germany, France, Denmark, and the Netherlands. By acquiring KPN’s carrier-neutral and cloud-neutral data center, Penta Infra increases its footprint in the Dutch market and establishes itself in the Amsterdam metropolitan region, an area that is now experiencing limitations. The Amsterdam municipality has said that it would not permit the development of additional data centers unless they provide some kind of contribution to the city.

Pentra Infra paid almost 10 million for the data center. The data center acquisition would fit in with Penta Infra’s long-term plan to increase the number of edge and core data centers it owns throughout Europe. KPN will continue to occupy the space in order to maintain the continuation of their network business. For data center colocation clients, Penta Infra will rebuild the remaining areas into cutting-edge IT spaces.

European Data Center Market

“Photon Capital is proud of this new milestone of our portfolio company Penta Infra,” said Igor Josephus Jitta, a partner at Photon Capital. “The company’s long-term strategy and its current portfolio are both well-suited to the purchase of this new data center. To further accelerate Penta Infra’s expansion, we will keep searching the European market for add-on acquisitions like this one.”

The company’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Alex Bakker, continued, saying, “We are happy to announce the newest member of the Penta Infra family, the purchase of this data center in the significant Amsterdam metropolitan area. Our position as a major player in the data center market is further cemented by this crucial strategic step. We are prepared to satisfy the increasing demand from our clients for safe, effective data solutions with this expansion. Our goal is to fully use this data center's amazing potential and make it available to our esteemed partners and clients around the globe.”
