Building on their new colocation data center in Hamburg has begun for Penta Infra, a rapidly expanding European colocation data center operator. Early in 2025, the new data center’s construction will be finished. Penta Infra thus greatly increases the capacity of its data centers in northern Germany.
In addition to being one of the most populated cities in Germany, Hamburg is strategically located in the country’s north. It serves as a gateway to the Nordic region as well as West and Northern Europe. The port city is well-known for its cutting-edge tech industry, which includes a large number of startups and tech enterprises in addition to being home to prominent colleges and research centers.
Since its founding in 2015, Penta Infra has built up a steadily expanding portfolio that now includes 11 data centers in Germany, France, the Netherlands, and Denmark that are positioned in key locations.
Penta Infra has strengthened its infrastructure and shown its dedication to creating a complete pan-European network of edge and core data centers by strategically integrating the new Hamburg data center into its operations. The company's acknowledgment of Hamburg's burgeoning digital economy and its potential as a key regional center for data-driven services is shown by this expansion.
The Reuse of Heat
The Hamburg location will be expanded to a 4,4 MW IT capacity. The brand-new, “cutting-edge” data center will have more than 2,500 square meters of IT space and be constructed with the highest industry standards for security, redundancy, and energy efficiency. The colocation data center will run entirely on renewable energy, have integrated solar panels covering its front façade, and allow for the reuse of heat inside the structure.
In their Copenhagen data center, Penta Infra has already successfully implemented the repurposing of heat, providing heat to about 1,500 households and winning a prize for the best environmentally friendly data center project in Denmark. Customers will be able to immediately access the Hamburg ecosystem since the new data center is incorporated into the current campus and will be connected to the main fiber backbones.
"We are excited to announce that we are constructing a new data center in Hamburg, a significant and strategic European market," said Penta Infra Chief Commercial Officer Patrick van der Wilt. “Hamburg is more to us than simply a trading metropolis; it represents striking a balance between a thriving economy and environmental consciousness. This harmony is a great fit with our goal of providing our customers, both present and future, with some of the most cutting-edge and environmentally friendly data center facilities in Europe. We decided to grow in Hamburg as a result of the strong demand we've seen from both current and potential clients. We want to increase the number of data centers we operate around Europe, and this new facility represents an exciting new step in that journey.”
