Schneider Electric Invests $140M in US Facilities to Meet Data Center Demand

Schneider Electric, global supplier of solutions for energy management and automation, plans to place an investment of 140 million dollars into its manufacturing facilities in the United States. The company will initially invest $85M to retrofit a 500,000 square foot facility in Mt. Juliet, Tennessee, and enhance its Smyrna operations, producing custom electrical gear and power distribution products for critical infrastructure and data center demands across the U.S.

It is anticipated that this will result in around 750 additional manufacturing opportunities being created throughout the United States during 2024. By mid-2024, the new Mt. Juliet factory should start producing and transporting products to Schneider Electric’s clients. It should be completely operational by 2025. In addition, the two plants would use cutting-edge manufacturing software and technology to enhance operational efficiency, save energy, and lessen their carbon footprint, among other advantages.

“The need for electrical infrastructure to support advanced computing and technological progress has never been greater,” said Aamir Paul, President, North America Operations, Schneider Electric. “These investments will also support implementation of the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act and Inflation Reduction Act by strengthening domestic supply of products critical to boost America’s electrification transformation. They will also further position Schneider Electric as a driving force behind this country's clean energy transition.”

Schneider Electric provides a comprehensive array of US-made data center solutions that can improve sustainability, reliability, and efficiency. Among the products they provide are Uninterruptible Power Supplies (UPS) systems, which guarantee constant power and guard against blackouts. To distribute electricity within the data center efficiently, they also provide electricity Distribution Units (PDUs). Data center temperature and humidity are optimized by Schneider Electric’s cooling solutions, which also cut energy usage. Examples of these solutions include EcoBreeze air economizers and InRow cooling.

Furthermore, their Rack Systems provide safe and adaptable hardware environments that support a range of topologies. Real-time monitoring, management, and planning capabilities are made possible by the integration of Schneider Electric’s EcoStruxure for Data Centers data center infrastructure management software with their hardware solutions.

$440M in US Investments Since 2020

According to Schneider Electric’s full year 2023 financial results, which were released last month, demand for the company’s sustainability and energy-efficient solutions is still rising. Its expansion in the United States may be attributed to the sustained high demand in both the infrastructure and data center end-markets, with the latter primarily driven by the advancement of artificial intelligence, according to the company itself.

Schneider Electric is dedicated to bolstering its American manufacturing footprint and generating employment opportunities, which includes the investment in Tennessee. In its American manufacturing network, Schneider Electric has made more than $440 million in investments since 2020. Its newest smart manufacturing facility, spanning 160,000 square feet and set to open in El Paso, Texas, in the summer of 2023, is one of these investments.

Additionally, Schneider Electric has modernized and automated a few of its own production and distribution centers in Mechanicsburg, Middletown, Lincoln, Nebraska, Lexington, Kentucky, and Lincoln, Nebraska. Schneider says it is able to maintain its competitiveness and agility, improve its domestic supply chain capabilities, and optimize its manufacturing and order fulfillment procedures thanks to these investments.

For 135 years now, Schneider Electric has been present in the United States. The corporation employs over 19,000 people in the U.S., and its products and solutions are used in 150 countries.
