Thales Launches PQC Kit with Quantinuum for Quantum Computing Security

Thales, a pioneer in technology and security globally, has partnered with Quantinuum to introduce the PQC Starter Kit, an inventive step to support cybersecurity in the age of quantum computing. With the world preparing for the quantum computing revolution, this innovative kit is meant to help businesses prepare for Post-Quantum Cryptography (PQC).

The advent of quantum computing would pose a substantial threat to conventional encryption techniques. According to recent polls, a significant 61% of enterprises have not yet devised a plan for this new quantum age, despite the fact that 73% of them recognize the danger that quantum computing presents to traditional encryption. PQC steps in at this point to provide a buffer against the impending quantum risks. Organizations must thus examine their present devices, applications, and systems that use classical encryption in order to make sure they can easily switch to quantum-safe protocols.

Thales’ Global Head of Data Security Products, Todd Moore, stressed the company's dedication to helping its clients throughout this crucial change. “We want to support clients as they transition to these new algorithms, and we recognize the challenges associated with this impending revolution in cryptography. To guarantee a seamless transition to PQC for those who are uncertain about how to proceed, we advise evaluating their current cryptographic apps and devices as soon as possible, according to Moore. He also emphasized how urgent it is to implement post-quantum resilience since hackers are more likely to use ‘Harvest Now, Decrypt Later’ strategies.”

For the post-quantum age, Duncan Jones, Head of Cybersecurity at Quantinuum, emphasized the need of strengthening encryption keys. Verifiable quantum randomness is provided by the innovative technique known as Quantum Origin, which strengthens encryption keys. For IT teams going through the PQC transformation, its integration with Thales HSM provides a reliable solution, said Jones.

Virtual Laboratory Experiments

Using the most recent NIST-proposed algorithms, companies may perform testing in a secured lab setting thanks to the PQC Starter Kit. With this configuration, one may experiment with different security situations including code-signing, PKI, TLS, and IoT. Through these virtual laboratory experiments, businesses may see the effects of using PQC technology without having an influence on their actual operations. Additionally, the kit assists in identifying any weaknesses in the encryption techniques now in use and modifying IT systems appropriately.

Luna HSMs and Quantinuum's quantum random number generation (QRNG) technology are included in the package to provide safe key creation and storage during PQC algorithm testing. Clients have access to Quantum Origin, an internationally confirmed source of quantum entropy, and may choose from a variety of Luna HSM forms. Thales is going to add a starter kit for network encryption with High Speed Encryptors (HSE) to its PQC solutions shortly.

By providing businesses with the resources they need to protect their data from new quantum threats, this partnership between Thales and Quantinuum might be a significant step in preparing for the quantum future.
