WP Engine Buys Developer-Centric Tools for WordPress from Delicious Brains

Global managed WordPress hosting provider, WPEngine, will purchase five of Delicious Brains' quite popular developer-centric WordPress solutions. This would bolster WPEngine’s productportfolio for both conventional and headless managed WordPress.

The acquired WordPress plugins are frequently used by WP Engine customers and have a total installed base of about 4 million users. Advanced Custom Fields (ACF), WP Migrate, WP Offload Media, WP Offload SES, and Better Search Replace are among the tools bought.

WP Engine’s portfolio of WordPress developer tools will be expanded with the addition of these widely used WordPress plugins, which already include WP Engine’s Local (WordPress developer tool), Genesis (WordPress theme framework), and Atlas Content Modeler (streamlining the development process of creating content models for headless WordPress websites).

The following plugins are now added to WPEngine’s existing toolkit for contemporary WordPress developers:

  • Advanced Custom Fields - Developers may easily design entire CMS solutions with WordPress, including easy-to-edit fields for content authors on any type of site.
  • WP Migrate (formerly WP Migrate DB Pro) – An advanced developer workflow tool, used by worldwide businesses on some of the largest WordPress sites in the world. The program would facilitate transferring the database, media, themes, and plugins across WordPress installations “quick, simple, and painless.”
  • WP Offload Media - automatically copies media files to cloud storage e.g. Amazon S3, DigitalOcean Spaces or Google Cloud Storage, rewrites URLs and serves media from a storage provider or CDN; all of which would greatly increase WordPress website speed and scale.
  • Better Search Replace - When upgrading a WordPress site, this lightweight, time-saving migration solution does a search/replace on the database to guarantee everything works properly.
  • WP Offload SES - Converts WordPress websites to send all emails over a “low-cost” Amazon SES account, improving inbox delivery and eliminating the limitations imposed by many email providers.
“ACF, WP Migrate and all of these plugins are tools the modern WordPress developer can’t live without,” said Heather Brunner, Chairwoman and CEO at WP Engine. “In combination with Local and our Genesis Framework, we continue to innovate and invest in our portfolio of essential builder tools so they’re not just used by developers to build WordPress sites today, but continue to be the preferred way of building for the next decade. We want to be the champion of the WordPress developer and make WP Engine their platform of choice for their most important digital experiences.”

ACF - Block-Based Editing

Photo Heather Brunner, Chairwoman and CEO at WP Engine “ACF, WP Migrate and all of these plugins are tools the modern WordPress developer can’t live without,” said Heather Brunner, Chairwoman and CEO at WP Engine.

WP Engine's platform, both its standard managed WordPress and its headless options, would be strengthened as a result of the purchase, particularly with the addition of ACF.

ACF would become even more significant as block-based editing in WordPress gains traction, with the ability to add custom content fields throughout the conventional WordPress interface as well as custom blocks to the new WordPress Block Editor. ACF’s block-building feature, in particular, would enable developers to construct custom blocks faster, making it easier to design WordPress websites that are not just distinctive but also targeted to the specific needs of marketers and content providers.

On the headless front, WP Engine promises to innovate and invest in the continuous development of ACF, as well as the Atlas Content Modeler (ACM), so that it remains the ideal tool for developing and modeling content for headless WordPress sites. WPEngine claims the combination of ACF and ACM to provide an indisputable standard for content modeling in headless WordPress, solidifying WordPress’ status as a top choice for headless CMS infrastructures.

StudioPress, Genesis - WordPress Community

StudioPress, the inventors of the Genesis Framework, a popular theme framework and its associated suite of site development tools for great WordPress projects, was bought by WP Engine in June 2018. WP Engine purchased Flywheel and Local in June 2019. Since then, WP Engine has worked to improve the WordPress builder experience, with approximately 900,000 local downloads and nearly 600,000 websites using Genesis themes and plugins.

WP Engine says it is doubling down on its commitment to the WordPress community and open source by acquiring these developer tools from Delicious Brains. These new features, when combined with WP Engine’s existing builder tools, would deliver a great builder experience as well as a quick and convenient method to construct and develop WordPress or headless WordPress websites. WP Engine also intends to increase support for contributors and the community by giving significant chances for continuous engagement as well as the ongoing maintenance and development of ACF, WP Migrate, and these other building tools.
