WP Engine, a global managed WordPress technology company, is marking its seventh year in Ireland with a significant expansion, announcing 20 new job openings at its Limerick office. This move underscores the company's rapid growth and its commitment to strengthening its European presence.
Since its inception, WP Engine has seen a dramatic increase in its managed WordPress customer base in Europe, growing from just over 3,000 in its first year to more than 18,000, a staggering 450% rise in less than a decade. According to the company itself, this growth is partly attributed to the company’s robust suite of developer-centric tools, such as Local, Advanced Custom Fields, Smart Search, which are widely used by hundreds of thousands of WordPress developers across the EMEA region.
WP Engine’s European journey began with the opening of its London office in 2014. This expansion was followed by the establishment of the Limerick office in 2016 and further extension into Poland with a Kraków office in 2019. Over the years, WP Engine Ireland has grown significantly from a small team of 10 to a robust workforce of over 150 employees. Initially focusing on technical WordPress support and product engineering, the Limerick office would now encompass nearly all business functions, showcasing the broadening scope of WP Engine's operations in Ireland.
Accolades
The newly appointed SVP of Sales, Justin Mongroo, will oversee a group of over 100 sales representatives.Numerous awards have been given to WP Engine in recognition of their performance in Ireland. The business was recognized as a pioneer in workplace culture earlier this year when it was designated by the Great Place to Work Institute as one of the Best Workplaces in Ireland and a Best Workplace for Women.
Senior Director of Product at WP Engine and Limerick site lead Haidee McMahon emphasized the vital part the Limerick office plays in the company's European strategy. She underlined that the office's goal is to become an expert in niche solutions like Atlas, which makes it easier to integrate eCommerce and WordPress separately. McMahon took great satisfaction in the office's role in the international expansion of WP Engine and the emerging Irish IT industry.
Lead Recruiter for Europe at WP Engine, Darren O'Dywer, repeated McMahon's remarks, complimenting Ireland on its extraordinary technical skills, especially in eCommerce. He emphasized how committed WP Engine is to developing this expertise, growing commercial operations in Ireland, and offering the best technical support in Europe. The company's attempts to assemble a group of individuals who are exceptional at producing top-notch operations demonstrate its dedication to establishing a top-tier workplace in Ireland.
WP Engine's Irish team regularly engages in social activities as part of the company's Engine for Good corporate social responsibility program, in addition to commercial development. Company fund-matching further supports these efforts, which showcase WP Engine's commitment to having a good influence on the community. These include assisting women in IT professions and giving to local organizations in Limerick.
New SVP of Sales
On the other side of the Atlantic, Justin Mongroo’s appointment as the new Senior Vice President of Sales marks another big step forward in WP Engine's growth plan as a leader in WordPress technology. In this capacity, Mr. Mongroo will manage the company’s sales teams in North America and provide fresh approaches to the region's expansion. Mongroo brings a lot of expertise to the table, having managed sales teams at numerous iconic digital businesses, such as Salesforce, Conga, Intuit, and Slack, over the course of a nearly two-decade career.
Mongroo had the chance to see and take part in a range of development tactics at Slack, especially where self-serve, product-led, and sales-led growth met. His observations from Slack's growth from their initial $100 million to over $1 billion are anticipated to influence and mold WP Engine's approach to marketing tactics.
The newly appointed SVP of Sales will oversee a group of over 100 sales representatives. This group's job is to come up with creative ways to design, implement, and oversee a range of WordPress experiences for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMBs) as well as major brands.
The CEO and chairwoman of WP Engine, Heather Brunner, expressed excitement over Mongroo's hiring, describing it as an important milestone in the company's ambitious expansion goals. Brunner emphasized Mongroo's remarkable experience and his capacity to provide value in a variety of technical domains, highlighting his suitability as a leader to propel WP Engine's expansion and offer knowledge to the company's biggest clients.
