Codezero Secures $3.5M in Funding for Multi-Cloud Microservices Innovation

Microservices pioneer Codezero has revealed a $3.5 million first financing round led by Ballistic Ventures, a venture capital firm that only finances entrepreneurs and cybersecurity innovations. Codezero’s goal to reinvent multi-cloud, collaborative microservices development has advanced significantly with this financing.

Ballistic Ventures adds even more support to Codezero’s already impressive group of angel investors and advisors, which also includes Nick Caldwell (Microsoft, HubSpot, and Peloton), Marty Weiner (Pinterest and Reddit), James Routh (AMEX, CVS, KPMG, and JPMorgan Chase), and Thomas Dohmke (CEO of GitHub).

With the additional funding, Codezero plans to develop its partner network and enlarge its sales and marketing departments. This is a calculated effort to expand the company’s reach among cloud service providers (CSPs), cloud migration experts, and corporate DevOps and DevSecOps organizations.

“Microservices-based multi-cloud architectures are now necessary for digital business transformation. However, choices between developer productivity and security may need to be made when creating microservices across different cloud infrastructure,” said Codezero co-founder and CEO Reed Clayton. “Our goal is to provide DevOps teams with multi-cloud, collaborative infrastructure that puts security and developer productivity first. Ballistic, a cybersecurity-focused venture capital company, is committed to this goal, and we're excited to be included in their portfolio.”

Solving Developer Security Challenges

A key developer security challenge would highlight the inherent risks and vulnerabilities linked to the extensive access and control developers need across various development and production environments. There are risks associated with requiring high-level rights - to develop, manage, and implement infrastructure and software.

Codezero Teamspaces offers an identity-aware overlay network that enables developers to “effortlessly” set up work environments integrating services across local setups, the cloud, and even peers’ machines without delving into the details of the underlying infrastructure, networking, or accessing credentials directly.

Differing from traditional methods, Teamspaces introduces a temporary, locally accessible environment that mirrors production settings, boosting developers’ productivity and enabling the swift delivery of superior-quality code. Furthermore, Teamspaces supports integration across multiple cloud providers, offering a “secured and efficient” workspace for developers worldwide.

“Our investment in Codezero fits squarely into two of our investment themes,” said Roger Thornton, General Partner of Ballistic Ventures, who joins the Codezero Board of Directors as part of the firm's investment. “The Codezero solution solves what is arguably the largest outstanding issue in the ‘Shift-Left’ security theme. It also brings a scalable and manageable ‘Zero Trust’ approach to the provisioning of developer access. With their impressive team and technology, we’re excited to have Codezero join the portfolio.”
