
In a significant shift in its executive landscape, Mirantis, a key player in the cloud computing industry, has announced a change in its leadership. Alex Freedland, the company’s co-founder, is set to reclaim the role of CEO, succeeding co-founder Adrian Ionel, effective January 11.
Alex Freedland, a recognized figure in the realm of open source technology, has been a constant guiding force at Mirantis. Holding various pivotal roles such as company chairman, board member, and previously as CEO, he has been instrumental in steering Mirantis' strategic focus on enterprise open-source solutions.
Freedland’s efforts have garnered a substantial portfolio of deployments worldwide and earned him a spot on Business Insider’s list of the 39 Most Important People in Cloud Computing. Additionally, Freedland’s influence extends beyond Mirantis, evidenced by his co-founding and chairmanship of the finance committee of the OpenInfra Foundation.
Adrian Ionel, also a co-founder of Mirantis, has been a cornerstone in establishing the company's stature in the cloud industry. Under his leadership, Mirantis not only achieved sustained profitability but also made strategic acquisitions such as Docker Enterprise, amazee.io, Shipa, and the assets of Kontena (Lens). Arian Ionel’s tenure as CEO marked a period of significant growth and consolidation for the company. He will continue his association with Mirantis, albeit in an advisory capacity.
